BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Kwasi Obeng, affectionately known as Dan was born in Kwahu Nkwatia on the 17th of November , 1946, to Opanin Kwaku Duku and his wife, Ama Nyame. He was the third born child of his parents’ seven children. He also had a lot of siblings from his father. He completed Nkwatia SDA middle school in 1966. He continued his education in Mc Djan’s Business Training College, Mpraeso. He wrote as a Private candidate, the London Chambers of Commerce ‘Grade Two paper’ and obtained credit in Type Writing.

In 1969, Daniel Kwasi Obeng worked as a typist in Breman Asikuma District Education Office.

At Mc Djan’s college, he was introduced to Kingdom Truths by his teacher. On this, much christian knowledge was built in latter years which led to him  getting baptised as a servant of Jehovah in November, 1969. Years after his baptism, he served as a Special Pioneer and later as a substitute Circuit Overseer in many areas in the Central Region.

During this period Daniel K. Obeng met his wife. They got married and together and by the blessings of Jehovah, they raised eleven children, three of which are deceased. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Obeng and his children; Abigail Churcher, Amaziah Kofi Obeng, Japhlet Kissiwaa Obbo, Kwame Asare Obeng, Abijah Amadi Opong, Joana Ohene Fenteng, Terry Kwame Obeng and Kweku Gyane Obeng. 

In the 1970’s, he engaged himself in writing publications in Akan language. He had to his credit, the book Bone Nhinta and some poems including Asem Bata Onyin Ho.

Daniel Kwesi Obeng believed in education for human and societal development. In 1981, he established Gomoa Asebu International School which later became Gomoaman Preparatory School. By means of the school, he nurtured many people academically, morally and spiritually. He did his best to help not only his children but also many other students who completed his school to gain reasonable levels of education, thus putting them in a better shape for the world of work, further studies and adult life.  Gomoaman Preparatory School was not simply a school, but a haven for orphans, widows, refugees, the poor and anyone who needed a safe and comfortable place to call home.

Throughout his life, what was very evident of Daniel Kwesi Obeng was his Love for Jehovah. He served as a Jehovah’s Witness for 54 years. Over the years, he was always ready to give his school premis out for spiritual activities such as conventions, yearly celebrations of the Memorial of Christ’s death and congregation meetings. One of the things that gave him great joy was when he had phone calls from some of his past students informing him that, they had become servants of Jehovah because of the Bible knowledge they received when they were in his school. 

Man as he was, he had his ups and downs. But he did not let that prevent him from forging ahead in his worship. Irrespective of his imperfections, he made every effort to maintain his relationship with Jehovah and helped others to do same, until his death that occurred on the 13th of July, 2023.

His wife, children, grand children, siblings (nuclear and extended), nephews and nieces, life time friends, past and present students and workers of his school and members of his Christian Congregation will deeply miss him. It is our firm hope to see him, when Jehovah resurrects the dead as He has promised in the Bible.
